XBD Troubleshooting

Troubles Opening XBD Files

DocuWorks Viewer Light Removed

When you double-click your XBD file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". Customarily, this means that DocuWorks Viewer Light is not installed on %%os%%. The OS won't know what to do with your XBD file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.

Tip: If you know of another program that can open your XBD file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.

DocuWorks Viewer Light Requires Update

It is possible that your version of DocuWorks Viewer Light isn't able to open your DocuWorks Binder File file due to incompatibility. Download the latest DocuWorks Viewer Light version from the Fuji Xerox website to ensure you have the correct one installed. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.

Tip: If you right-click on your XBD file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.

Regardless, most of the XBD file opening problems relate to not having the right version of DocuWorks Viewer Light installed.

More Causes of Problems Opening XBDs

In the majority of cases, installing the right version of DocuWorks Viewer Light will resolve your issue. If you are still having problems opening XBD files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Problems unrelated to software:

  • XBD file references in the Windows Registry are broken
  • Deletion of the XBD file description from the Registry by mistake
  • Invalid installation of a XBD-associated program (eg. DocuWorks Viewer Light)
  • Your XBD file is corrupted (issues with your DocuWorks Binder File file itself)
  • The XBD is infected with a virus
  • Device drivers for XBD-related hardware are out-of-date
  • Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the DocuWorks Binder File format
