Troubleshoot GIM Files

Common GIM Opening Problems

Missing RCO Editor

If you attempt to load your GIM file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open GIM Files". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have RCO Editor for %%os%% installed on your computer. The OS won't know what to do with your GIM file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.

Tip: If you know of another program that can open your GIM file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.

Incorrect RCO Editor Version

Your PlayStation Portable Image File file is incompatible with RCO Editor because you might have the wrong version installed. Download the latest RCO Editor version from the Open Source website to ensure you have the correct one installed. The primary cause of this problem is that your PlayStation Portable Image File file was created by a different (newer) version of RCO Editor than what's installed.

Tip: Right-clicking on your GIM, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.

Summary: Not having the right RCO Editor version on your computer can cause problems opening GIM files.

Additional GIM Opening Issues

Errors opening PlayStation Portable Image File files can still occur even with the latest RCO Editor software installed on your computer. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening GIM files. Additional factors include:

  • Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for GIM
  • The GIM file description within the Windows Registry was removed
  • Corrupt install of RCO Editor or other GIM-related program
  • The GIM itself is corrupted
  • Past or present virus infection has affected your GIM
  • Hardware related to GIMs has device driver corruption
  • Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the PlayStation Portable Image File file
