Sources of HAL Problems
Common Problems Opening HAL Files
HansaWorld Enterprise Disappeared
You encounter an error message such as "- Can't Open HAL Files" when trying to open your HAL. Usually, this is because you do not have HansaWorld Enterprise for - installed. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the HAL file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: If you don't have HansaWorld Enterprise installed, and you know of another program to open your HAL file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Outdated HansaWorld Enterprise
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of HansaWorld Enterprise installed that's incompatible with your HansaWorld Enterprise HAL Code File type. Visit the HansaWorld website to download (or purchase) the latest version of HansaWorld Enterprise. Most of the time your HansaWorld Enterprise HAL Code File file was created by a newer HansaWorld Enterprise than what you have installed.
Tip: Right-clicking on your HAL, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening HAL files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.

You can still experience errors opening HAL files even with the latest version of HansaWorld Enterprise installed on your PC. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening HAL files. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
