Troubleshooting Problems Opening PKD Files
Common Problems Opening PKD Files
Power Karaoke Disappeared
When trying to open your PKD file, you get the error "Can't Open PKD File Type". If so, it typically means that you don't have Power Karaoke installed for %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the PKD file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: Another PKD-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Wrong Version of Power Karaoke is Installed
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Power Karaoke Project file that is unsupported by your installed application version. If you've got the wrong version of Power Karaoke installed, you'll need to install the correct version. The primary cause of this problem is that your Power Karaoke Project file was created by a different (newer) version of Power Karaoke than what's installed.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your PKD file and clicking "Properties".
Regardless, most of the PKD file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Power Karaoke installed.
Associated Difficulties Loading PKD Files
Even with the correct version of Power Karaoke installed, you can still experience difficulties opening PKDs. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening PKD files. Additional factors include:
- File references in the Windows Registry for PKD are wrong
- Corruption of the PKD file description inside the Registry
- Defective install of a PKD program, such as Power Karaoke
- Your PKD can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Your PKD is infected with malware
- Hardware related to PKDs has device driver corruption
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your Power Karaoke Project file
