Understanding EMM Issues

Typical EMM Opening Challenges

MindMaple Disappeared

When you double-click your EMM file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". When this happens, it is commonly due to MindMaple missing in %%os%%. The OS won't know what to do with your EMM file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.

Tip: Another EMM-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.

Obsolete Version of MindMaple

It is possible that your version of MindMaple isn't able to open your MindMaple Map file due to incompatibility. If you do not have the proper version MindMaple (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This problem is predominately due to having a MindMaple Map file version that was created by a newer version of MindMaple than what you have installed on your PC.

Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your EMM file and clicking "Properties".

Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening EMM files are due to having the wrong version of MindMaple installed.

Additional EMM Opening Issues

Even with the correct version of MindMaple installed, you can still experience difficulties opening EMMs. If you are continuing to have errors with loading EMM files, other external issues might be to blame. Issues that aren't software-related:

• EMM file references in the Windows Registry are broken
• Corruption of the EMM file description inside the Registry
• Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the EMM format
• Your EMM file is corrupted (issues with your MindMaple Map file itself)
• The EMM is infected with a virus
• Hardware related to EMMs has device driver corruption
• Windows cannot load your MindMaple Map file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
