Overview
When your computer performs slowly, it might be that the physical memory (RAM) of your computer is not adequate. Windows 8 requires at least 2 gigabytes (GB) of RAM to function and the recommended amount is 4 GB. If you are troubleshooting a slow computer, you should check the amount of RAM installed on the computer.
Checking the Amount of RAM in a Computer
1. Press the + I keys on your keyboard, and then click Control Panel that appears on the right side of your desktop screen.

2. Click System and Security in the Control Panel window that appears.
3. Click System in the System and Security window that appears.
4. Check the value of Installed memory (RAM) in the System window that appears.
5. Click the icon to close the System window.
