Understanding IGM Issues
Troubles Opening IGM Files
Indigo Renderer Removed
If you attempt to load your IGM file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open IGM Files". If so, it typically means that you don't have Indigo Renderer installed for %%os%%. Your operating system cannot associate your IGM with Indigo Renderer, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens IGM files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Indigo Renderer is Out-of-Date
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of Indigo Renderer installed that's incompatible with your Indigo Renderer Material File type. If you do not have the proper version Indigo Renderer (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. The primary cause of this problem is that your Indigo Renderer Material File file was created by a different (newer) version of Indigo Renderer than what's installed.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the IGM file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening IGM files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Other IGM File Opening Causes
Although you might already have Indigo Renderer or another IGM-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Indigo Renderer Material File files. If you are still having problems opening IGM files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Issues that aren't software-related:
- Invalid IGM file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Deletion of the IGM file description from the Registry by mistake
- Invalid installation of a IGM-associated program (eg. Indigo Renderer)
- Your IGM can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- The IGM is infected with a virus
- Hardware related to IGMs has device driver corruption
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open Indigo Renderer Material File files
