JIF Troubleshooting
Typical JIF Opening Challenges
Adobe Illustrator CC Removed
When trying to open your JIF file, you get the error "Can't Open JIF File Type". When this happens, it is commonly due to Adobe Illustrator CC missing in %%os%%. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: If you don't have Adobe Illustrator CC installed, and you know of another program to open your JIF file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Wrong Version of Adobe Illustrator CC is Installed
It is possible that your version of Adobe Illustrator CC isn't able to open your JPEG Image file due to incompatibility. You will need to download a newer version of Adobe Illustrator CC if you don't have the right version. Your JPEG Image file was probably created by a newer release of Adobe Illustrator CC than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: If you right-click on your JIF file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Primarily, problems experienced when opening JIF files are due to having the incorrect version of Adobe Illustrator CC installed on your computer.
Other Causes of JIF File Opening Problems
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Adobe Illustrator CC will resolve your issue. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening JIFs. Other contributing causes:
- JIF file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- Unintentional removal of the description of the JIF file inside the Windows Registry
- Adobe Illustrator CC or another JIF application experienced a flawed installation
- Something has caused file corruption of your JIF
- JIF file integrity has been compromised by malware
- Device drivers for JIF-related hardware are out-of-date
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the JPEG Image file
