AFX Troubleshooting
Common AFX Opening Problems
Corel Painter is Not Installed
If you attempt to load your AFX file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open AFX Files". Usually, this is because you do not have Corel Painter for %%os%% installed. You won't be able to double-click to open your AFX because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your AFX, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Corel Painter is Out-of-Date
It is possible that your version of Corel Painter isn't able to open your Auto FX PhotoGraphic Edges Image file due to incompatibility. If you've got the wrong version of Corel Painter installed, you'll need to install the correct version. Most of the time your Auto FX PhotoGraphic Edges Image file was created by a newer Corel Painter than what you have installed.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of AFX file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Regardless, most of the AFX file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Corel Painter installed.
Additional AFX Opening Issues
You can still experience errors opening AFX files even with the latest version of Corel Painter installed on your PC. Other AFX opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Other contributing causes:
- AFX file type Registry entries are wrong
- Deletion of the AFX file description from the Registry by mistake
- Defective install of a AFX program, such as Corel Painter
- The AFX itself is corrupted
- Past or present virus infection has affected your AFX
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your AFX file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your Auto FX PhotoGraphic Edges Image file successfully
