26L Troubleshooting
Issues Opening 26L Files
VLC Media Player Disappeared
If you attempt to load your 26L file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open 26L Files". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because VLC Media Player isn't installed on your PC. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the 26L file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: If you don't have VLC Media Player installed, and you know of another program to open your 26L file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Outdated VLC Media Player
Sometimes your installed version of VLC Media Player won't support your Video Data file. If you do not have the proper version VLC Media Player (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Right-clicking on your 26L, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Summary: Not having the right VLC Media Player version on your computer can cause problems opening 26L files.
Additional 26L Opening Issues
You can still experience errors opening 26L files even with the latest version of VLC Media Player installed on your PC. Other 26L opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. These issues include:
- 26L file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- Unintentional removal of the description of the 26L file inside the Windows Registry
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the 26L format
- 26L file corruption
- Your 26L has adversely impacted by malware
- 26L-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open Video Data files
