Troubleshooting Problems Opening L Files
Frequent L Opening Issues
Missing Life32
When trying to open your L file, you get the error "Can't Open L File Type". When this happens, it is commonly due to Life32 missing in %%os%%. Your operating system cannot associate your L with Life32, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your L, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Life32 is Out-of-Date
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of Life32 installed that's incompatible with your Game Of Life File type. Visit the Johan Bontes website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Life32. Most of the time your Game Of Life File file was created by a newer Life32 than what you have installed.
Tip: Right-clicking on your L, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Primarily, problems experienced when opening L files are due to having the incorrect version of Life32 installed on your computer.
Associated Difficulties Loading L Files
Assuming you have the right Life32 version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening L files. Other L opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for L
- The L file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Corrupt install of Life32 or other L-related program
- File corruption affecting your L file
- Past or present virus infection has affected your L
- Device drivers for L-related hardware are out-of-date
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open Game Of Life File files
