OGM File Complications
Common OGM Opening Problems
VLC Media Player Disappeared
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open OGM Files" when trying to open your OGM. If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have VLC Media Player for %%os%% installed on your computer. The typical path of opening your OGM with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: Another OGM-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Obsolete Version of VLC Media Player
Your Ogg Media File file is incompatible with VLC Media Player because you might have the wrong version installed. If you do not have the proper version VLC Media Player (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. Your Ogg Media File file was probably created by a newer release of VLC Media Player than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Right-clicking on your OGM, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening OGM files are due to having the wrong version of VLC Media Player installed.
Other OGM File Issues
Errors opening Ogg Media File files can still occur even with the latest VLC Media Player software installed on your computer. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening OGM files. These issues include:
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for OGM
- Deletion of the OGM file description from the Registry by mistake
- Corrupt install of VLC Media Player or other OGM-related program
- Your OGM file is corrupted (issues with your Ogg Media File file itself)
- OGM file integrity has been compromised by malware
- Device drivers for OGM-related hardware are out-of-date
- Windows cannot load your Ogg Media File file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
