Troubleshooting Problems Opening XI Files

Troubles Opening XI Files

Awave Studio is Not Installed

When trying to open your XI file, you get the error "Can't Open XI File Type". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Awave Studio for %%os%% installed on your computer. You won't be able to double-click to open your XI because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.

Tip: Another XI-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.

Outdated Awave Studio

In other instances, your Fasttracker 2 Extended Instrument File file version may not be supported by your version of Awave Studio. You will need to download a newer version of Awave Studio if you don't have the right version. Most of the time your Fasttracker 2 Extended Instrument File file was created by a newer Awave Studio than what you have installed.

Tip: If you right-click on your XI file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.

Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening XI files are due to having the wrong version of Awave Studio installed.

Other XI File Issues

Although you might already have Awave Studio or another XI-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Fasttracker 2 Extended Instrument File files. If you are continuing to have errors with loading XI files, other external issues might be to blame. Issues that aren't software-related:

  • XI file type Registry entries are wrong
  • Mistaken removal of the Windows registry XI description
  • Invalid installation of a XI-associated program (eg. Awave Studio)
  • XI file corruption
  • The XI is infected with a virus
  • Hardware associated with XI has outdated drivers
  • Insufficient system resources to successfully open Fasttracker 2 Extended Instrument File files
