Troubleshoot XP Files
Typical XP Opening Challenges
Fasttracker is Not Installed
When you double-click your XP file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". Customarily, this means that Fasttracker is not installed on %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the XP file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens XP files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Incorrect Fasttracker Version
In other instances, your Fastracker 2 Pattern file version may not be supported by your version of Fasttracker. Download the latest Fasttracker version from the Starbreeze Studios website to ensure you have the correct one installed. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Investigate your XP file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening XP files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Other XP File Issues
Although you might already have Fasttracker or another XP-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Fastracker 2 Pattern files. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening XP files. Other contributing causes:
- Windows Registry XP file paths that are incorrect
- Deletion of the XP file description from the Registry by mistake
- Corrupt install of Fasttracker or other XP-related program
- XP file corruption
- The XP is infected with a virus
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your XP file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your Fastracker 2 Pattern file
