Sources of FRW Problems
Issues Opening FRW Files
RollerCoaster Tycoon Isn't There
When trying to open your FRW file, you get the error "Can't Open FRW File Type". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have RollerCoaster Tycoon for %%os%% installed on your computer. The OS won't know what to do with your FRW file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your FRW, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Wrong Version of RollerCoaster Tycoon is Installed
Sometimes your installed version of RollerCoaster Tycoon won't support your RollerCoaster Tycoon Fireworks Source Data file. Download the latest RollerCoaster Tycoon version from the Chris Sawyer website to ensure you have the correct one installed. The primary cause of this problem is that your RollerCoaster Tycoon Fireworks Source Data file was created by a different (newer) version of RollerCoaster Tycoon than what's installed.
Tip: Investigate your FRW file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Conclusion: The majority of FRW file opening issues are due to not having the correct RollerCoaster Tycoon version installed.
Other FRW File Opening Causes
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of RollerCoaster Tycoon will resolve your issue. If you are continuing to have errors with loading FRW files, other external issues might be to blame. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- Windows Registry FRW file paths that are incorrect
- Accidental deletion of the description of the FRW file in the Windows registry
- Corrupt install of RollerCoaster Tycoon or other FRW-related program
- Your FRW can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Your FRW has adversely impacted by malware
- Device drivers for FRW-related hardware are out-of-date
- Windows cannot load your RollerCoaster Tycoon Fireworks Source Data file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
