KON File Complications
Issues Opening KON Files
Yahoo! Widgets is Not Installed
When you double-click your KON file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". When this happens, it is commonly due to Yahoo! Widgets missing in %%os%%. The OS won't know what to do with your KON file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your KON file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Wrong Version of Yahoo! Widgets is Installed
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Yahoo! Widget XML File file that is unsupported by your installed application version. Visit the Yahoo! website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Yahoo! Widgets. The primary cause of this problem is that your Yahoo! Widget XML File file was created by a different (newer) version of Yahoo! Widgets than what's installed.
Tip: Right-clicking on your KON, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening KON files are due to having the wrong version of Yahoo! Widgets installed.
Other KON File Issues
Although you might already have Yahoo! Widgets or another KON-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Yahoo! Widget XML File files. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening KON files. Issues that aren't software-related:
- File references in the Windows Registry for KON are wrong
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry KON description
- Invalid installation of a KON-associated program (eg. Yahoo! Widgets)
- Your KON can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Past or present virus infection has affected your KON
- Device drivers for KON-related hardware are out-of-date
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your Yahoo! Widget XML File file
