31 File Complications
Common 31 Opening Problems
Pro/ENGINEER Isn't There
When trying to open your 31 file, you get the error "Can't Open 31 File Type". Customarily, this means that Pro/ENGINEER is not installed on %%os%%. You won't be able to double-click to open your 31 because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: Another 31-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Obsolete Version of Pro/ENGINEER
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Creo Elements/Pro Versioned Data file that is unsupported by your installed application version. Download the latest Pro/ENGINEER version from the PTC website to ensure you have the correct one installed. The primary cause of this problem is that your Creo Elements/Pro Versioned Data file was created by a different (newer) version of Pro/ENGINEER than what's installed.
Tip: Right-clicking on your 31, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening 31 files are due to having the wrong version of Pro/ENGINEER installed.
Other 31 File Issues
Even with the correct version of Pro/ENGINEER installed, you can still experience difficulties opening 31s. If you are still having problems opening 31 files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Other contributing causes:
- 31 file type Registry entries are wrong
- Unintentional removal of the description of the 31 file inside the Windows Registry
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the 31 format
- The 31 itself is corrupted
- Past or present virus infection has affected your 31
- 31-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your Creo Elements/Pro Versioned Data file successfully
