Troubleshooting Problems Opening 41 Files

Frequent 41 Opening Issues

Pro/ENGINEER is Not Installed

Double-clicking your 41 file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open 41 File". When this happens, it is commonly due to Pro/ENGINEER missing in %%os%%. The OS won't know what to do with your 41 file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.

Tip: If you don't have Pro/ENGINEER installed, and you know of another program to open your 41 file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".

Pro/ENGINEER is Out-of-Date

In other instances, your Creo Elements/Pro Versioned Data file version may not be supported by your version of Pro/ENGINEER. Visit the PTC website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Pro/ENGINEER. This problem is predominately due to having a Creo Elements/Pro Versioned Data file version that was created by a newer version of Pro/ENGINEER than what you have installed on your PC.

Tip: Investigate your 41 file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.

Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening 41 files are due to having the wrong version of Pro/ENGINEER installed.

Other Causes of 41 File Opening Problems

Errors opening Creo Elements/Pro Versioned Data files can still occur even with the latest Pro/ENGINEER software installed on your computer. If you're still experiencing problems opening 41 files, there could be other computer problems. Additional factors include:

  • File references in the Windows Registry for 41 are wrong
