50 File Complications

Common 50 Opening Problems

Pro/ENGINEER Disappeared

Double-clicking your 50 file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open 50 File". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Pro/ENGINEER isn't installed on your PC. The OS won't know what to do with your 50 file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.

Tip: When another 50 application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.

Incorrect Pro/ENGINEER Version

Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of Pro/ENGINEER installed that's incompatible with your Creo Elements/Pro Versioned Data type. If you do not have the proper version Pro/ENGINEER (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. Your Creo Elements/Pro Versioned Data file was probably created by a newer release of Pro/ENGINEER than what's currently installed your computer.

Tip: If you right-click on your 50 file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.

Primarily, problems experienced when opening 50 files are due to having the incorrect version of Pro/ENGINEER installed on your computer.

Other 50 File Opening Causes

Assuming you have the right Pro/ENGINEER version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening 50 files. If you are still having problems opening 50 files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. These issues include:

  • Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for 50
  • Deletion of the 50 file description from the Registry by mistake
  • Invalid installation of a 50-associated program (eg. Pro/ENGINEER)
  • The 50 itself is corrupted
  • Your 50 is infected with malware
  • Device drivers for 50-related hardware are out-of-date
  • Insufficient system resources to successfully open Creo Elements/Pro Versioned Data files
