Frequent KPT Opening Issues

KOffice Isn't There

Double-clicking your KPT file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open KPT File". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because KOffice isn't installed on your PC. Your operating system cannot associate your KPT with KOffice, so double-clicking the file won't work.

Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your KPT, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").

KOffice Requires Update

It is possible that your version of KOffice isn't able to open your KPresenter Template File file due to incompatibility. Installing the latest version of KOffice from Open Source is recommended. This problem is predominately due to having a KPresenter Template File file version that was created by a newer version of KOffice than what you have installed on your PC.

Tip: Investigate your KPT file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.

Regardless, most of the KPT file opening problems relate to not having the right version of KOffice installed.

Other KPT File Issues

Assuming you have the right KOffice version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening KPT files. Other KPT opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Other contributing causes:

• Invalid KPT file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
• Deletion of the KPT file description from the Registry by mistake
• KOffice or another KPT application experienced a flawed installation
• Your KPT file is corrupted (issues with your KPresenter Template File file itself)
• Your KPT is infected with malware
• KPT-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
• Windows cannot load your KPresenter Template File file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
