Understanding 57 Issues
Common Problems Opening 57 Files
Pro/ENGINEER is Not Installed
When trying to open your 57 file, you get the error "Can't Open 57 File Type". Customarily, this means that Pro/ENGINEER is not installed on %%os%%. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your 57, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Incorrect Pro/ENGINEER Version
In other instances, your Creo Elements/Pro Versioned Data file version may not be supported by your version of Pro/ENGINEER. Visit the PTC website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Pro/ENGINEER. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Right-clicking on your 57, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Regardless, most of the 57 file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Pro/ENGINEER installed.
Other Causes of 57 File Opening Problems
You can still experience errors opening 57 files even with the latest version of Pro/ENGINEER installed on your PC. If you are continuing to have errors with loading 57 files, other external issues might be to blame. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- File references in the Windows Registry for 57 are wrong
- Unintentional removal of the description of the 57 file inside the Windows Registry
- Defective install of a 57 program, such as Pro/ENGINEER
- The 57 itself is corrupted
- The 57 is infected with a virus
- Hardware associated with 57 has outdated drivers
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your Creo Elements/Pro Versioned Data file successfully
