Troubleshooting Problems Opening 66 Files
Typical 66 Opening Challenges
Pro/ENGINEER Removed
When trying to open your 66 file, you get the error "Can't Open 66 File Type". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Pro/ENGINEER for %%os%% installed on your computer. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your 66, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Pro/ENGINEER Requires Update
It is possible that your version of Pro/ENGINEER isn't able to open your Creo Elements/Pro Versioned Data file due to incompatibility. You will need to download a newer version of Pro/ENGINEER if you don't have the right version. The primary cause of this problem is that your Creo Elements/Pro Versioned Data file was created by a different (newer) version of Pro/ENGINEER than what's installed.
Tip: Investigate your 66 file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening 66 files are due to having the wrong version of Pro/ENGINEER installed.
Additional 66 Opening Issues
Assuming you have the right Pro/ENGINEER version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening 66 files. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening 66 files. Problems unrelated to software:
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for 66
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry 66 description
- Pro/ENGINEER or another 66 application experienced a flawed installation
- 66 file corruption
- Past or present virus infection has affected your 66
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your 66 file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Creo Elements/Pro Versioned Data file
