77 Troubleshooting
Troubles Opening 77 Files
Pro/ENGINEER Disappeared
If you attempt to load your 77 file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open 77 Files". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Pro/ENGINEER isn't installed on your PC. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your 77 file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Incorrect Pro/ENGINEER Version
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Creo Elements/Pro Versioned Data file that is unsupported by your installed application version. You will need to download a newer version of Pro/ENGINEER if you don't have the right version. Your Creo Elements/Pro Versioned Data file was probably created by a newer release of Pro/ENGINEER than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Right-clicking on your 77, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Regardless, most of the 77 file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Pro/ENGINEER installed.
Other 77 File Opening Causes
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Pro/ENGINEER will resolve your issue. If you're still experiencing problems opening 77 files, there could be other computer problems. These issues include:
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for 77
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry 77 description
- Pro/ENGINEER or another 77 application experienced a flawed installation
- Your 77 file is corrupted (issues with your Creo Elements/Pro Versioned Data file itself)
- 77 file integrity has been compromised by malware
- Device drivers for 77-related hardware are out-of-date
- Windows cannot load your Creo Elements/Pro Versioned Data file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
