Understanding 89 Issues
Common Problems Opening 89 Files
Pro/ENGINEER Isn't There
When trying to open your 89 file, you get the error "Can't Open 89 File Type". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Pro/ENGINEER for %%os%% installed on your computer. Your operating system cannot associate your 89 with Pro/ENGINEER, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens 89 files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Outdated Pro/ENGINEER
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of Pro/ENGINEER installed that's incompatible with your Creo Elements/Pro Versioned Data type. Visit the PTC website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Pro/ENGINEER. Your Creo Elements/Pro Versioned Data file was probably created by a newer release of Pro/ENGINEER than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your 89 file and clicking "Properties".
Conclusion: The majority of 89 file opening issues are due to not having the correct Pro/ENGINEER version installed.
Other 89 File Opening Causes
Although you might already have Pro/ENGINEER or another 89-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Creo Elements/Pro Versioned Data files. Other 89 opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Additional factors include:
- Invalid 89 file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Deletion of the 89 file description from the Registry by mistake
- Pro/ENGINEER or another 89 application experienced a flawed installation
- The 89 itself is corrupted
- 89 file integrity has been compromised by malware
- 89-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Windows cannot load your Creo Elements/Pro Versioned Data file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
