KWT Troubleshooting
Troubles Opening KWT Files
KVIrc Not Present
You attempt to load your KWT file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The KWT File Extension". When this happens, it is commonly due to KVIrc missing in %%os%%. Your operating system cannot associate your KWT with KVIrc, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: Another KWT-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Obsolete Version of KVIrc
Sometimes your installed version of KVIrc won't support your KVIrc Theme file. If you've got the wrong version of KVIrc installed, you'll need to install the correct version. This issue mainly occurs when your KVIrc Theme file was created by a newer version of KVIrc than you have on your PC.
Tip: Right-clicking on your KWT, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Primarily, problems experienced when opening KWT files are due to having the incorrect version of KVIrc installed on your computer.
Associated Difficulties Loading KWT Files
Although you might already have KVIrc or another KWT-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening KVIrc Theme files. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening KWT files. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- Invalid KWT file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Accidental deletion of the description of the KWT file in the Windows registry
- Invalid installation of a KWT-associated program (eg. KVIrc)
- The KWT itself is corrupted
- KWT file integrity has been compromised by malware
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your KWT file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open KVIrc Theme files
