Sources of BMB Problems

Common BMB Opening Problems

Pro/ENGINEER is Not Installed

If you attempt to load your BMB file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open BMB Files". If so, it typically means that you don't have Pro/ENGINEER installed for %%os%%. You won't be able to double-click to open your BMB because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.

Tip: When another BMB application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.

Obsolete Version of Pro/ENGINEER

Sometimes your installed version of Pro/ENGINEER won't support your Pro/ENGINEER Temporary Data File file. You will need to download a newer version of Pro/ENGINEER if you don't have the right version. This problem is predominately due to having a Pro/ENGINEER Temporary Data File file version that was created by a newer version of Pro/ENGINEER than what you have installed on your PC.

Tip: If you right-click on your BMB file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.

Primarily, problems experienced when opening BMB files are due to having the incorrect version of Pro/ENGINEER installed on your computer.

Associated Difficulties Loading BMB Files

You can still experience errors opening BMB files even with the latest version of Pro/ENGINEER installed on your PC. If you're still experiencing problems opening BMB files, there could be other computer problems. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):

  • Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for BMB
  • Unintentional removal of the description of the BMB file inside the Windows Registry
  • Corrupt install of Pro/ENGINEER or other BMB-related program
  • Your BMB can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
  • Malware-tainted BMB file can't be opened
  • Device drivers of the hardware associated with your BMB file are corrupt or out-of-date
  • Windows cannot load your Pro/ENGINEER Temporary Data File file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
