SLP File Complications
Issues Opening SLP Files
SpectraLayers Pro Not Present
Double-clicking your SLP file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open SLP File". When this happens, it is commonly due to SpectraLayers Pro missing in %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the SLP file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: Another SLP-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Incorrect SpectraLayers Pro Version
It is possible that your version of SpectraLayers Pro isn't able to open your SpectraLayers Pro Project file due to incompatibility. If you've got the wrong version of SpectraLayers Pro installed, you'll need to install the correct version. This issue mainly occurs when your SpectraLayers Pro Project file was created by a newer version of SpectraLayers Pro than you have on your PC.
Tip: If you right-click on your SLP file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening SLP files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Additional SLP Opening Issues
You can still experience errors opening SLP files even with the latest version of SpectraLayers Pro installed on your PC. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening SLP files. These issues include:
- File references in the Windows Registry for SLP are wrong
- The SLP file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Invalid installation of a SLP-associated program (eg. SpectraLayers Pro)
- File corruption affecting your SLP file
- Your SLP is infected with malware
- Device drivers for SLP-related hardware are out-of-date
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the SpectraLayers Pro Project file
