IIL File Complications
Typical IIL Opening Challenges
Microsoft Notepad Disappeared
Double-clicking your IIL file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open IIL File". If so, it typically means that you don't have Microsoft Notepad installed for %%os%%. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: If you don't have Microsoft Notepad installed, and you know of another program to open your IIL file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Outdated Microsoft Notepad
Your Norton CleanSweep Installation Log File file is incompatible with Microsoft Notepad because you might have the wrong version installed. If you've got the wrong version of Microsoft Notepad installed, you'll need to install the correct version. The primary cause of this problem is that your Norton CleanSweep Installation Log File file was created by a different (newer) version of Microsoft Notepad than what's installed.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of IIL file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Primarily, problems experienced when opening IIL files are due to having the incorrect version of Microsoft Notepad installed on your computer.
Additional IIL Opening Issues
You can still experience errors opening IIL files even with the latest version of Microsoft Notepad installed on your PC. If you are still having problems opening IIL files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Additional factors include:
- IIL file type Registry entries are wrong
- Corruption of the IIL file description inside the Registry
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the IIL format
- Your IIL can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Past or present virus infection has affected your IIL
- Hardware associated with IIL has outdated drivers
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the Norton CleanSweep Installation Log File format
