Understanding OSA Issues

Common Problems Opening OSA Files

AVG Antivirus is Not Installed

You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open OSA Files" when trying to open your OSA. If so, it typically means that you don't have AVG Antivirus installed for %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the OSA file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.

Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your OSA, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").

AVG Antivirus is Out-of-Date

Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of AVG Antivirus installed that's incompatible with your W32/Sober-AD File type. Installing the latest version of AVG Antivirus from AVG Technologies is recommended. The primary cause of this problem is that your W32/Sober-AD File file was created by a different (newer) version of AVG Antivirus than what's installed.

Tip: If you right-click on your OSA file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.

Primarily, problems experienced when opening OSA files are due to having the incorrect version of AVG Antivirus installed on your computer.

Other OSA File Issues

You can still experience errors opening OSA files even with the latest version of AVG Antivirus installed on your PC. If you are still having problems opening OSA files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Problems unrelated to software:

  • Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for OSA
  • Deletion of the OSA file description from the Registry by mistake
  • Defective install of a OSA program, such as AVG Antivirus
  • File corruption affecting your OSA file
  • Past or present virus infection has affected your OSA
  • Hardware associated with OSA has outdated drivers
  • Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the W32/Sober-AD File file
