SLF Troubleshooting
Common Problems Opening SLF Files
Symantec Ghost Solution Suite Removed
When you double-click your SLF file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". When this happens, it is commonly due to Symantec Ghost Solution Suite missing in %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the SLF file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your SLF, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Outdated Symantec Ghost Solution Suite
It is possible that your version of Symantec Ghost Solution Suite isn't able to open your Symantec License File file due to incompatibility. Installing the latest version of Symantec Ghost Solution Suite from Symantec Corporation is recommended. This issue mainly occurs when your Symantec License File file was created by a newer version of Symantec Ghost Solution Suite than you have on your PC.
Tip: Right-clicking on your SLF, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening SLF files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Associated Difficulties Loading SLF Files
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Symantec Ghost Solution Suite will resolve your issue. If you are continuing to have errors with loading SLF files, other external issues might be to blame. Additional factors include:
- SLF file type Registry entries are wrong
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry SLF description
- Defective install of a SLF program, such as Symantec Ghost Solution Suite
- Your SLF file is corrupted (issues with your Symantec License File file itself)
- The SLF is infected with a virus
- Drivers associated with SLF software need to be updated
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open Symantec License File files
