SLG Troubleshooting

Issues Opening SLG Files

Chromeleon Disappeared

When trying to open your SLG file, you get the error "Can't Open SLG File Type". When this happens, it is commonly due to Chromeleon missing in %%os%%. The OS won't know what to do with your SLG file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.

Tip: When another SLG application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.

Obsolete Version of Chromeleon

It is possible that your version of Chromeleon isn't able to open your Chromeleon Audit Trail Data file due to incompatibility. Visit the Dionex Corporation website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Chromeleon. This problem is predominately due to having a Chromeleon Audit Trail Data file version that was created by a newer version of Chromeleon than what you have installed on your PC.

Tip: Right-clicking on your SLG, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.

Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening SLG files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.

Additional SLG Opening Issues

Although you might already have Chromeleon or another SLG-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Chromeleon Audit Trail Data files. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening SLGs. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):

  • SLG file references in the Windows Registry are broken
  • Unintentional removal of the description of the SLG file inside the Windows Registry
  • Invalid installation of a SLG-associated program (eg. Chromeleon)
  • SLG file corruption
  • Malware-tainted SLG file can't be opened
  • Drivers associated with SLG software need to be updated
  • Too many applications are open on your PC to load your Chromeleon Audit Trail Data file successfully
