SSY File Complications

Common SSY Opening Problems

ScreenShare Not Present

Double-clicking your SSY file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open SSY File". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have ScreenShare for %%os%% installed on your computer. The OS won't know what to do with your SSY file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.

Tip: If you have another software that you know opens SSY files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.

Outdated ScreenShare

Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of ScreenShare installed that's incompatible with your ScreenShare Compressed Data type. Installing the latest version of ScreenShare from Unknown Developer is recommended. The primary cause of this problem is that your ScreenShare Compressed Data file was created by a different (newer) version of ScreenShare than what's installed.

Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of SSY file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).

Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening SSY files are due to having the wrong version of ScreenShare installed.

Additional SSY Opening Issues

Assuming you have the right ScreenShare version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening SSY files. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening SSY files. Issues that aren't software-related:

  • Windows Registry SSY file paths that are incorrect
  • Mistaken removal of the Windows registry SSY description
  • Corrupt install of ScreenShare or other SSY-related program
  • Your SSY file is corrupted (issues with your ScreenShare Compressed Data file itself)
  • The SSY is infected with a virus
  • Device drivers of the hardware associated with your SSY file are corrupt or out-of-date
  • Windows has inadequate resources to open your ScreenShare Compressed Data file
