SV2I Troubleshooting

Common SV2I Opening Problems

VMware vCenter Converter is Not Installed

If you attempt to load your SV2I file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open SV2I Files". If so, it typically means that you don't have VMware vCenter Converter installed for %%os%%. The typical path of opening your SV2I with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.

Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your SV2I, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").

Outdated VMware vCenter Converter

It is possible that your version of VMware vCenter Converter isn't able to open your Symantec System Index File file due to incompatibility. You will need to download a newer version of VMware vCenter Converter if you don't have the right version. The primary cause of this problem is that your Symantec System Index File file was created by a different (newer) version of VMware vCenter Converter than what's installed.

Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of SV2I file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).

Summary: Not having the right VMware vCenter Converter version on your computer can cause problems opening SV2I files.

Additional SV2I Opening Issues

In the majority of cases, installing the right version of VMware vCenter Converter will resolve your issue. If you are continuing to have errors with loading SV2I files, other external issues might be to blame. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):

  • Windows Registry SV2I file paths that are incorrect
  • Deletion of the SV2I file description from the Registry by mistake
  • Invalid installation of a SV2I-associated program (eg. VMware vCenter Converter)
  • The SV2I itself is corrupted
  • SV2I file integrity has been compromised by malware
  • Hardware related to SV2Is has device driver corruption
  • Windows cannot load your Symantec System Index File file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
