Troubleshoot V2I Files
Common Problems Opening V2I Files
Symantec Ghost Solution Suite Not Present
When trying to open your V2I file, you get the error "Can't Open V2I File Type". If so, it typically means that you don't have Symantec Ghost Solution Suite installed for %%os%%. The OS won't know what to do with your V2I file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your V2I file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Wrong Version of Symantec Ghost Solution Suite is Installed
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of Symantec Ghost Solution Suite installed that's incompatible with your Norton Ghost Virtual Volume Image type. If you've got the wrong version of Symantec Ghost Solution Suite installed, you'll need to install the correct version. The primary cause of this problem is that your Norton Ghost Virtual Volume Image file was created by a different (newer) version of Symantec Ghost Solution Suite than what's installed.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of V2I file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Primarily, problems experienced when opening V2I files are due to having the incorrect version of Symantec Ghost Solution Suite installed on your computer.
More Causes of Problems Opening V2Is
Errors opening Norton Ghost Virtual Volume Image files can still occur even with the latest Symantec Ghost Solution Suite software installed on your computer. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening V2Is. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- Invalid V2I file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry V2I description
- Symantec Ghost Solution Suite or another V2I application experienced a flawed installation
- Your V2I file is corrupted (issues with your Norton Ghost Virtual Volume Image file itself)
- Your V2I has adversely impacted by malware
- V2I-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Windows cannot load your Norton Ghost Virtual Volume Image file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
