Troubleshoot A3M Files
Common A3M Opening Problems
Adobe Authorware Disappeared
You attempt to load your A3M file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The A3M File Extension". When this happens, it is commonly due to Adobe Authorware missing in %%os%%. The typical path of opening your A3M with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens A3M files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Adobe Authorware Requires Update
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of Adobe Authorware installed that's incompatible with your Authorware 3 Macintosh File type. You will need to download a newer version of Adobe Authorware if you don't have the right version. This issue mainly occurs when your Authorware 3 Macintosh File file was created by a newer version of Adobe Authorware than you have on your PC.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your A3M file and clicking "Properties".
Conclusion: The majority of A3M file opening issues are due to not having the correct Adobe Authorware version installed.
Other A3M File Issues
Errors opening Authorware 3 Macintosh File files can still occur even with the latest Adobe Authorware software installed on your computer. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening A3Ms. Additional factors include:
- Invalid A3M file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Deletion of the A3M file description from the Registry by mistake
- Defective install of a A3M program, such as Adobe Authorware
- Your A3M file is corrupted (issues with your Authorware 3 Macintosh File file itself)
- Malware-tainted A3M file can't be opened
- A3M-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your Authorware 3 Macintosh File file
