ACV Troubleshooting

Common ACV Opening Problems

Adobe Photoshop CC Disappeared

Double-clicking your ACV file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open ACV File". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Adobe Photoshop CC isn't installed on your PC. The typical path of opening your ACV with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.

Tip: Another ACV-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.

Adobe Photoshop CC Requires Update

Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of Adobe Photoshop CC installed that's incompatible with your Photoshop Curves File type. Visit the Adobe Systems Incorporated website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Adobe Photoshop CC. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.

Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your ACV file and clicking "Properties".

Summary: Not having the right Adobe Photoshop CC version on your computer can cause problems opening ACV files.

Other Causes of ACV File Opening Problems

In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Adobe Photoshop CC will resolve your issue. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening ACV files. Other contributing causes:

  • Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for ACV
  • Deletion of the ACV file description from the Registry by mistake
  • Partial installation of Adobe Photoshop CC that did not fully complete
  • The ACV itself is corrupted
  • Past or present virus infection has affected your ACV
  • Hardware related to ACVs has device driver corruption
  • Windows cannot load your Photoshop Curves File file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
