Troubleshooting Problems Opening AER Files
Typical AER Opening Challenges
Adobe Atmosphere is Not Installed
Double-clicking your AER file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open AER File". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Adobe Atmosphere isn't installed on your PC. You won't be able to double-click to open your AER because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens AER files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Obsolete Version of Adobe Atmosphere
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Adobe Atmosphere World file that is unsupported by your installed application version. Visit the Adobe Systems Incorporated website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Adobe Atmosphere. Most of the time your Adobe Atmosphere World file was created by a newer Adobe Atmosphere than what you have installed.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of AER file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Primarily, problems experienced when opening AER files are due to having the incorrect version of Adobe Atmosphere installed on your computer.
Additional AER Opening Issues
Errors opening Adobe Atmosphere World files can still occur even with the latest Adobe Atmosphere software installed on your computer. If you are continuing to have errors with loading AER files, other external issues might be to blame. Problems unrelated to software:
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for AER
- Deletion of the AER file description from the Registry by mistake
- Partial installation of Adobe Atmosphere that did not fully complete
- The AER itself is corrupted
- Malware-tainted AER file can't be opened
- Device drivers for AER-related hardware are out-of-date
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Adobe Atmosphere World file
