AIP File Summary

Most AIP files can be viewed with three known software applications, typically Adobe Illustrator CC developed by Adobe Systems Incorporated. It's main file type association is the Illustrator Plug-in format, but also includes two other rarely-seen file types. Although AIP files are traditionally categorized as Plugin Files, they can also be Settings Files.

Both desktop and mobile devices enable you to view and (sometimes) edit these files, depending on the software used. The Popularity Rating for AIP files is "Low", which means these files are not ordinarily found on an everyday user's device.

Troubleshoot AIP Files

Common Problems Opening AIP Files

Adobe Illustrator CC is Not Installed

You attempt to load your AIP file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The AIP File Extension". Customarily, this means that Adobe Illustrator CC is not installed on %%os%%. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.

Tip: If you know of another program that can open your AIP file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.

Adobe Illustrator CC Requires Update

Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of Adobe Illustrator CC installed that's incompatible with your Illustrator Plug-in type. If you've got the wrong version of Adobe Illustrator CC installed, you'll need to install the correct version. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.

Tip: Investigate your AIP file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.

Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening AIP files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.

Associated Difficulties Loading AIP Files

In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Adobe Illustrator CC will resolve your issue. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening AIPs. These issues include:

  • AIP file references in the Windows Registry are broken
  • Mistaken removal of the Windows registry AIP description
  • Invalid installation of a AIP-associated program (eg. Adobe Illustrator CC)
  • AIP file corruption
  • AIP file integrity has been compromised by malware
  • Drivers associated with AIP software need to be updated
  • Windows cannot load your Illustrator Plug-in file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
