ALV Troubleshooting
Common Problems Opening ALV Files
Adobe Photoshop CC is Not Installed
If you attempt to load your ALV file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open ALV Files". Usually, this is because you do not have Adobe Photoshop CC for %%os%% installed. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: If you don't have Adobe Photoshop CC installed, and you know of another program to open your ALV file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Wrong Version of Adobe Photoshop CC is Installed
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of Adobe Photoshop CC installed that's incompatible with your Adobe Photoshop Levels File type. Download the latest Adobe Photoshop CC version from the Adobe Systems Incorporated website to ensure you have the correct one installed. This problem is predominately due to having a Adobe Photoshop Levels File file version that was created by a newer version of Adobe Photoshop CC than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of ALV file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening ALV files are due to having the wrong version of Adobe Photoshop CC installed.
Associated Difficulties Loading ALV Files
Even with the correct version of Adobe Photoshop CC installed, you can still experience difficulties opening ALVs. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening ALV files. Additional factors include:
- ALV file type Registry entries are wrong
- Deletion of the ALV file description from the Registry by mistake
- Adobe Photoshop CC or another ALV application experienced a flawed installation
- Your ALV can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Past or present virus infection has affected your ALV
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your ALV file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Adobe Photoshop Levels File file
