AN Troubleshooting

Typical AN Opening Challenges

Adobe Animate CC 2017 Not Present

If you attempt to load your AN file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open AN Files". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Adobe Animate CC 2017 for %%os%% installed on your computer. Your operating system cannot associate your AN with Adobe Animate CC 2017, so double-clicking the file won't work.

Tip: If you don't have Adobe Animate CC 2017 installed, and you know of another program to open your AN file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".

Adobe Animate CC 2017 is Out-of-Date

Your Adobe Edge Animate Project File file is incompatible with Adobe Animate CC 2017 because you might have the wrong version installed. You will need to download a newer version of Adobe Animate CC 2017 if you don't have the right version. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.

Tip: Right-clicking on your AN, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.

Summary: Not having the right Adobe Animate CC 2017 version on your computer can cause problems opening AN files.

Other Causes of AN File Opening Problems

Although you might already have Adobe Animate CC 2017 or another AN-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Adobe Edge Animate Project File files. Other AN opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Issues that aren't software-related:

  • Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for AN
  • Accidental deletion of the description of the AN file in the Windows registry
  • Defective install of a AN program, such as Adobe Animate CC 2017
  • The AN itself is corrupted
  • Your AN has adversely impacted by malware
  • Device drivers of the hardware associated with your AN file are corrupt or out-of-date
  • Windows has inadequate resources to open your Adobe Edge Animate Project File file
