AOM Troubleshooting
Issues Opening AOM Files
Adobe After Effects Isn't There
When trying to open your AOM file, you get the error "Can't Open AOM File Type". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Adobe After Effects for %%os%% installed on your computer. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the AOM file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your AOM, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Incorrect Adobe After Effects Version
Your After Effects Output Module file is incompatible with Adobe After Effects because you might have the wrong version installed. If you do not have the proper version Adobe After Effects (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. Your After Effects Output Module file was probably created by a newer release of Adobe After Effects than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Right-clicking on your AOM, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening AOM files are due to having the wrong version of Adobe After Effects installed.
Other Causes of AOM File Opening Problems
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Adobe After Effects will resolve your issue. If you're still experiencing problems opening AOM files, there could be other computer problems. Other contributing causes:
- AOM file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- Deletion of the AOM file description from the Registry by mistake
- Invalid installation of a AOM-associated program (eg. Adobe After Effects)
- Your AOM file is corrupted (issues with your After Effects Output Module file itself)
- Past or present virus infection has affected your AOM
- Device drivers for AOM-related hardware are out-of-date
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the After Effects Output Module format
