ATN File Complications
Typical ATN Opening Challenges
Adobe Photoshop CC is Not Installed
When you double-click your ATN file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". Usually, this is because you do not have Adobe Photoshop CC for %%os%% installed. The OS won't know what to do with your ATN file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your ATN, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Adobe Photoshop CC is Out-of-Date
Your Photoshop Actions File file is incompatible with Adobe Photoshop CC because you might have the wrong version installed. If you've got the wrong version of Adobe Photoshop CC installed, you'll need to install the correct version. This issue mainly occurs when your Photoshop Actions File file was created by a newer version of Adobe Photoshop CC than you have on your PC.
Tip: If you right-click on your ATN file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Conclusion: The majority of ATN file opening issues are due to not having the correct Adobe Photoshop CC version installed.
Other Causes of ATN File Opening Problems
Although you might already have Adobe Photoshop CC or another ATN-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Photoshop Actions File files. If you are continuing to have errors with loading ATN files, other external issues might be to blame. Problems unrelated to software:
- ATN file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- The ATN file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Invalid installation of a ATN-associated program (eg. Adobe Photoshop CC)
- The ATN itself is corrupted
- Your ATN has adversely impacted by malware
- Hardware related to ATNs has device driver corruption
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the Photoshop Actions File format
