Troubleshooting Problems Opening AWE Files
Troubles Opening AWE Files
Adobe Creative Cloud Isn't There
You attempt to load your AWE file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The AWE File Extension". If so, it typically means that you don't have Adobe Creative Cloud installed for %%os%%. The OS won't know what to do with your AWE file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your AWE, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Obsolete Version of Adobe Creative Cloud
Your Adobe Acrobat Bookmark XML Data file is incompatible with Adobe Creative Cloud because you might have the wrong version installed. Visit the Adobe Systems Incorporated website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Adobe Creative Cloud. This problem is predominately due to having a Adobe Acrobat Bookmark XML Data file version that was created by a newer version of Adobe Creative Cloud than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the AWE file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Primarily, problems experienced when opening AWE files are due to having the incorrect version of Adobe Creative Cloud installed on your computer.
Additional AWE Opening Issues
Although you might already have Adobe Creative Cloud or another AWE-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Adobe Acrobat Bookmark XML Data files. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening AWEs. Additional factors include:
