Sources of BLA Problems
Issues Opening BLA Files
Adobe Creative Cloud Removed
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open BLA Files" when trying to open your BLA. If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Adobe Creative Cloud for %%os%% installed on your computer. The typical path of opening your BLA with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your BLA, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Obsolete Version of Adobe Creative Cloud
Sometimes your installed version of Adobe Creative Cloud won't support your Adobe Black Colour Separation Data file. You will need to download a newer version of Adobe Creative Cloud if you don't have the right version. This problem is predominately due to having a Adobe Black Colour Separation Data file version that was created by a newer version of Adobe Creative Cloud than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of BLA file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening BLA files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Additional BLA Opening Issues
Assuming you have the right Adobe Creative Cloud version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening BLA files. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening BLA files. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- BLA file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- Deletion of the BLA file description from the Registry by mistake
- Adobe Creative Cloud or another BLA application experienced a flawed installation
- BLA file corruption
- Malware-tainted BLA file can't be opened
- Hardware associated with BLA has outdated drivers
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your Adobe Black Colour Separation Data file
