DBM File Complications
Typical DBM Opening Challenges
MacroMates TextMate Not Present
When you double-click your DBM file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because MacroMates TextMate isn't installed on your PC. Your operating system cannot associate your DBM with MacroMates TextMate, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your DBM file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Incorrect MacroMates TextMate Version
It is possible that your version of MacroMates TextMate isn't able to open your ColdFusion Server File file due to incompatibility. If you do not have the proper version MacroMates TextMate (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. Your ColdFusion Server File file was probably created by a newer release of MacroMates TextMate than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of DBM file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening DBM files are due to having the wrong version of MacroMates TextMate installed.
Other DBM File Opening Causes
Errors opening ColdFusion Server File files can still occur even with the latest MacroMates TextMate software installed on your computer. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening DBM files. Problems unrelated to software:
- DBM file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry DBM description
- Invalid installation of a DBM-associated program (eg. MacroMates TextMate)
- DBM file corruption
- Malware-tainted DBM file can't be opened
- Hardware associated with DBM has outdated drivers
- Windows cannot load your ColdFusion Server File file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
