DMV File Complications

Common DMV Opening Problems

Adobe Acrobat DC Disappeared

You attempt to load your DMV file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The DMV File Extension". When this happens, it is commonly due to Adobe Acrobat DC missing in %%os%%. The typical path of opening your DMV with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.

Tip: If you have another software that you know opens DMV files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.

Adobe Acrobat DC is Out-of-Date

Your Adobe Acrobat Catalog Data file is incompatible with Adobe Acrobat DC because you might have the wrong version installed. Installing the latest version of Adobe Acrobat DC from Adobe Systems Incorporated is recommended. This problem is predominately due to having a Adobe Acrobat Catalog Data file version that was created by a newer version of Adobe Acrobat DC than what you have installed on your PC.

Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of DMV file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).

Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening DMV files are due to having the wrong version of Adobe Acrobat DC installed.

Associated Difficulties Loading DMV Files

Assuming you have the right Adobe Acrobat DC version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening DMV files. If you are still having problems opening DMV files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):

  • DMV file references in the Windows Registry are broken
  • Corruption of the DMV file description inside the Registry
  • Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the DMV format
  • DMV file corruption
  • The DMV is infected with a virus
  • Device drivers for DMV-related hardware are out-of-date
  • Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Adobe Acrobat Catalog Data file
