Troubleshoot DRT Files
Common DRT Opening Problems
Missing Micrografix Windows Draw
When you double-click your DRT file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". Customarily, this means that Micrografix Windows Draw is not installed on %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the DRT file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: When another DRT application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Wrong Version of Micrografix Windows Draw is Installed
It is possible that your version of Micrografix Windows Draw isn't able to open your Micrografix Windows Draw Template File file due to incompatibility. Download the latest Micrografix Windows Draw version from the Micrografx website to ensure you have the correct one installed. Your Micrografix Windows Draw Template File file was probably created by a newer release of Micrografix Windows Draw than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the DRT file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening DRT files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
More Causes of Problems Opening DRTs
Assuming you have the right Micrografix Windows Draw version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening DRT files. If you are still having problems opening DRT files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Issues that aren't software-related:
- File references in the Windows Registry for DRT are wrong
- Unintentional removal of the description of the DRT file inside the Windows Registry
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the DRT format
- Your DRT can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Your DRT has adversely impacted by malware
- Device drivers for DRT-related hardware are out-of-date
- Windows cannot load your Micrografix Windows Draw Template File file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
