Understanding EDML Issues
Frequent EDML Opening Issues
Adobe Dreamweaver Removed
If you attempt to load your EDML file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open EDML Files". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Adobe Dreamweaver isn't installed on your PC. The typical path of opening your EDML with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: Another EDML-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Adobe Dreamweaver is Out-of-Date
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of Adobe Dreamweaver installed that's incompatible with your Adobe Extension Data Markup Language File type. If you do not have the proper version Adobe Dreamweaver (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This issue mainly occurs when your Adobe Extension Data Markup Language File file was created by a newer version of Adobe Dreamweaver than you have on your PC.
Tip: Right-clicking on your EDML, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening EDML files are due to having the wrong version of Adobe Dreamweaver installed.
Associated Difficulties Loading EDML Files
Assuming you have the right Adobe Dreamweaver version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening EDML files. If you are still having problems opening EDML files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Other contributing causes:
- EDML file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry EDML description
- Adobe Dreamweaver or another EDML application experienced a flawed installation
- Your EDML can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Your EDML is infected with malware
- Drivers associated with EDML software need to be updated
- Windows cannot load your Adobe Extension Data Markup Language File file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
