Troubleshoot NS3 Files

Typical NS3 Opening Challenges

IBM Lotus Notes Isn't There

You attempt to load your NS3 file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The NS3 File Extension". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have IBM Lotus Notes for %%os%% installed on your computer. The OS won't know what to do with your NS3 file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.

Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your NS3, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").

Outdated IBM Lotus Notes

In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Lotus Notes 3 Database file that is unsupported by your installed application version. If you do not have the proper version IBM Lotus Notes (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.

Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of NS3 file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).

Conclusion: The majority of NS3 file opening issues are due to not having the correct IBM Lotus Notes version installed.

Associated Difficulties Loading NS3 Files

Errors opening Lotus Notes 3 Database files can still occur even with the latest IBM Lotus Notes software installed on your computer. Other NS3 opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. These issues include:

  • Invalid NS3 file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
  • Mistaken removal of the Windows registry NS3 description
  • Corrupt install of IBM Lotus Notes or other NS3-related program
  • File corruption affecting your NS3 file
  • Past or present virus infection has affected your NS3
  • Hardware associated with NS3 has outdated drivers
  • Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Lotus Notes 3 Database file
