Sources of EDN Problems
Issues Opening EDN Files
Xilinx ISE WebPACK Isn't There
Double-clicking your EDN file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open EDN File". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Xilinx ISE WebPACK for %%os%% installed on your computer. The typical path of opening your EDN with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: When another EDN application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Xilinx ISE WebPACK Requires Update
Sometimes your installed version of Xilinx ISE WebPACK won't support your EDIF Implementation Netlist File file. You will need to download a newer version of Xilinx ISE WebPACK if you don't have the right version. This issue mainly occurs when your EDIF Implementation Netlist File file was created by a newer version of Xilinx ISE WebPACK than you have on your PC.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the EDN file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Regardless, most of the EDN file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Xilinx ISE WebPACK installed.
Other EDN File Opening Causes
Although you might already have Xilinx ISE WebPACK or another EDN-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening EDIF Implementation Netlist File files. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening EDN files. Problems unrelated to software:
- Windows Registry EDN file paths that are incorrect
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry EDN description
- Invalid installation of a EDN-associated program (eg. Xilinx ISE WebPACK)
- Something has caused file corruption of your EDN
- The EDN is infected with a virus
- EDN-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the EDIF Implementation Netlist File file
